We’ve arrived in Annapolis! Jim will stay with Tilia at a marina while Anne returns to Minneapolis to work in the hospital for a few weeks.
Before heading to the marina, we are spent a couple of days “on the ball” — on a mooring ball in Annapolis Harbor, literally in the shadow of the US Naval Academy. It’s easy to see why Annapolis is called the sailing capital of the US because everything is focused on the water here.
- For just $4, a water taxi will ferry people from their boat to shore — they typically come within a few minutes of calling them.
- Our first night on the mooring ball, we watched dozens of boats sail through the mooring field after finishing their regattas. They came within arm’s length of moored boats, effortlessly navigating around other boats under sail.
- This will be a great place for Jim to get supplies and get work done on the boat while Anne is away. There are many skilled workers to choose from in each boat related trade. We will explore getting a new canvas cockpit enclosure (ours is quite worn), someone will go up the mast to inspect our rigging, and we will try to get our watermaker running again.
We’ve been having lots of fun in Annapolis.
- A bit of tourism…. Exploring the beautiful historic streets.
- We had a lovely time joining our new friend, Pete (the Minnesotan we met at our recent anchorage) and his wife, Marlys, at their home for dinner. We were in their beautiful garden overlooking the Naval Academy.
- Best of all, we got to meet up with our niece, Lucy, and her fiancé, Tyler. They’ve been living on their catamaran for about a year, and they pulled into Annapolis Harbor shortly after us. SO amazing to see them! We even got to share Anne’s birthday dinner, a very special treat.
We will be moving north in late July. In the meantime, Anne will be on land and Jim will be accomplishing boat projects. We’ll post again when we are on the move.
