Fun with Friends

We’ve had a wonderful couple of weeks with friends in the Abacos. We hosted our friends Hillary and Koleena for a few days, then we were joined by other friends, Peter and Lauren. After a couple of days all six of us together, Hillary and Koleena left and we had a couple of days with just Peter and Lauren. It was great to have all six of us together for a while, and also, the time with just four of us on both ends of the visits.

It was also so very helpful to have willing hands on the boat, as everyone jumped in to help and learn some of the anchoring, sailing and docking work.

The weather cooperated (again!), and we had a few really great sailing days. We also could easily take advantage of low wind days with shore excursions, snorkeling, and paddle boarding.

Over the course of their visits, we visited several cays:

  • Man-O-War Cay, where we found a beautiful sailcloth shop and a wonderful brand new marina with many friendly people who organized an impromptu happy hour when we were wind bound.
  • Nunjack Cay, a more remote spot with nurse sharks, rays and tide pools to explore.
  • Elbow Cay, with the historic Hopetown Lighthouse and beautiful Atlantic Beach as well as great spots for happy hours with friends.

It’s been so much fun to host, and the Abacos chain of cays and islands is the perfect spot for it, with the Sea of Abaco which is calm, beautiful and fun to sail on one side and the open Atlantic on the other, with some dramatic coastlines.
