Great Harbour Cay (pronounced Great Harbor Key) has been a great place to visit, and an excellent introduction to the Bahamas. Although there are certainly many things to see and do that we haven’t had the chance to experience, we have been having a great time so far with our limited exposure!
On Saturday, we took the dinghy and explored part of Shark Creek, a shallow network of water through the mangroves on the island. It far exceeded our expectations. The water is so clear that we could almost always see the bottom, and animals as we came across them. We saw dozens of sea turtles, several stingrays, and a couple small sharks. We also enjoyed exploring part of the maze of channels through mangroves, and the many small fish that ventured out when we stopped for a lunch snack.

On Saturday, there was a potluck dinner to celebrate the conclusion of the rally from Florida to the Bahamas. Each boat brought something to the event, and the organizers added a rum punch for us to share a joint toast. It was fun to chat with some of the other people who made the jump with us, and to celebrate having arrived.

Today, Anne took the paddle board to shore to explore. Brian and Jim brought the dinghy to meet her a little later, and then we took another excursion into Shark Creek. This time, we went up new channels and marveled at the turtles and stingrays again. Truly a remarkable experience.

The wind is forecast to change direction tomorrow morning, so we will be moving from this little slice of paradise to our next stop.
