We have spent nearly two weeks in a marina in Nassau. It was the perfect place for Anne to rest and heal. The marina was centrally located, so Jim was able to run errands as needed to well-stocked marine stores and grocery stores. Nassau has everything one might need — at a premium of course!

While Jim worked on boat projects, Anne mostly napped, read and watched movies. It was quite exciting when she was able to walk a bit in the marina, and eventually even the 15 minutes to the grocery store!

While in Nassau, Jim took a day trip to Miami to buy Anne a new iPhone (the dogs took it from her in the attack). Also, while in Miami, Jim was able to activate the phone on the US network, swing by an Amazon locker to pick up a few items, and mail some letters for Anne. In these modern times, finding a mailbox was the most difficult part of the whole trip.
Anne’s healing has gone remarkably quickly, and at this point she has only a couple of wounds that continue to need daily care. Her hands are healed enough to handle lines and her legs enough to move about the boat, so today we got to cast off and head out.

We took a short, 40 mile trip, mostly under sail, to the Exumas, a region of over 300 islands and cays. They were home to indigenous peoples until the 1600s, when the population was enslaved and wiped out. They were later populated by British Loyalists in the late 1700s, after the American Revolutionary War.

The Exumas are known for their “gin clear” waters and remote, quiet spaces. When we anchored, we could easily see the bottom at 15 feet and were greeted by a beautiful school of fish and a nurse shark. We are excited to explore tomorrow!
