After a last few tweaks to our electrical systems and generator this morning (huge thank you to the crew at Marine Craft), today we got underway: precisely one month after we came to North Carolina.
Lots of firsts today on our new (to us) boat — even something as seemingly simple as getting off the dock is stressful in an unfamiliar boat. We then solo docked at a nearby marina to fill up our diesel tanks. Most importantly, we were able to get the sails up! We sailed for a bit under light winds on the Neuse River. Our running rigging is stiff after having sat for many months, but everything is in working order. Nothing better than the sound of water along the hull while under sail.
After sailing, we made our way to Adam’s Creek to anchor for the night, our first anchorage ever on Tilia. New challenges — many crab pots to maneuver around (the lines from their floats to the pots can foul our props); new anchoring system to learn.
Huge sense of satisfaction to set our anchor, fire up the grill and make a steak dinner, which tasted delicious. Tomorrow will be rainy, so we plan to stay at anchor and work on boat projects before making our way further south on Sunday.
